U.S. Democrats plan to give Israel an addition $225 million for military spending. The same bill also cuts $1 billion of emergency funds meant to deal with the 50,000 undocumented child migrants held in crowded and unsanitary border facilities.
Israel already received $504 million for the joint U.S.-Israel Missle Defense Program for the Fiscal Year of 2014. That is not including the $3.1 Billion the Obama Administration spent on Foreign Military Financing (FMF) for Israel for the Fiscal Year 2014.

Fuck this

no money for water in detroit
no money for public schools
no money for student loan debt relief
no money for healthcare
no money for crumbling infrastructure
no money for economic investment in inner cities and indian country
no money
no money
no money
no money

People need to get angry now

MY ORIGINAL DESIGN WONDER WOMAN IS DONE!  Designed by me and created by my wifey.  And somehow I got a little red dress out of it, too. The entire costume (wig and all) will premiere on 4th of July at CONvergence, I am so excited!

The only thing missing is the yellow piece but I really like this better.  Man the wifey knows best  <3

Edit:  My cosplay page is here.  I’ll have more pictures there <3  Also, here’s a blog post on how the dress was made courtesy of my wifey  :)

Dominance Behavior in Canids

I didn’t really even WANT to make a post about this.

The alpha-beta-omega model of wolf packs is dead in scientific literature, hammered into the ground, so to speak, and it’s been dead for over ten years. So why am I still hearing about it on TV and reading about it in articles? Why are popular dog trainers that encourage you to “be the alpha” still taken seriously?

I think the unfortunate truth is that the idea that there are strong and ferocious leaders in wolf packs and that you, too, can take on that role with your dog is just somehow appealing to people. Almost romantic, in the older sense of the word. And because of this, it makes money. It sells werewolf media. It sells dog training classes. Educational science channels that have no business promoting this false ideology keep it on board because it gets people watching.

If you couldn’t tell, I’m pretty fed up with the whole thing.

Okay, let’s talk about dominance, particularly what the word even means, because popular media does a terrible job of explaining it.

The fact that the ALA shared this link is so gloriously bitter and angry and I love it.

Is there a portmanteau for that? Angritter? Bangry?

My library card already gets me multiple “real” books, e-books, audiobooks, magazines and movies per month. For free.

Kindle Unlimited offers nothing from big presses, and no guarantee the authors will get paid fairly for their work. Libraries buy the book up front for a higher price (and a better binding). Kindle Unlimited offers the authors a variable percentage of a as-yet-undetermined-and-unannounced amount of money.
While Amazon touts Kindle Unlimited at “Netflix For Books!” the reality is Netflix signed contracts with everyone whose work they offer so that actors, screen writers, best boys, and the rest of those people get paid for the shows and movies you watch. Amazon does not.
That means your favorite author isn’t being compensated for their time or work. If you love a book series and want to see the next one get published: buy the book or hit the library. Starving authors quit writing because they like eating.

Not only is your favorite author not being compensated for their work, but the editors who help shape your favorite author’s work, the marketing departments who work really, incredibly hard at getting the word out for their authors (in an increasingly glutted marketplace and often, in smaller and mid-sized houses, with low budgets), the designers who create beautiful covers and carefully lay out the interiors of your favorite books so that you can read them easily, etc etc also all lose out when Amazon strong arms publishers into giving them huge discounts that can—and have!—put small publishers (particularly vulnerable ones like LGBTQ and feminist presses) completely out of business.

I really, really encourage everyone to do the following two things:
1) Order books from Powell’s, not Amazon. I bought Edan Lepucki’s “California” from them, and they offer flat $4.95 shipping on orders under $50, and free shipping on orders over $50. They have used and new books and they offer discounts on big sellers. The prices aren’t AS low as Amazon but they’re comparable. I know it’s impossible to completely eliminate buying things on Amazon, but at least try a little bit.
2) Check out your local library. I lived in LA for about 6 years before checking out the LA Public Library System. I was a fool! Now I get ebooks on my Kindle without ever having to go to the library. (pssst - If you don’t finish the book in the three weeks you have it on loan, turn off your Kindle’s wifi and it won’t go away.) I pick up physical books at the location less than a mile from me. I get audiobooks for long drives. I still buy physical books that I want to have for more than three weeks, but for most of my reading, the library is the way to go. If you’re cynical, think of it as getting a better return on investment from your tax dollars.

and don’t forget about interlibrary loan! even if your local library doesn’t have it, usually they can get it for you from other libraries around the world
libraries also have music and video!
and a lot of libraries have ways for you to get books without going to their physical locations so check it out!!

im having a little trouble raising money for my gofundme and im gonna beg my blog for some help again. im 18, disabled, queer and i am being kicked out of my house september 1st. but i have bills.
WHY I NEED THIS MONEY: i NEED this money because my government insurance has expired now that im not a high school student and i cant pay my bills from when i was in the emergency room for a suicide attempt. i have NO MONEY to use to move out and no money to pay these bills. i was laid off from my job at chipotle because my fibromyalgia was causing me too much pain to work long shifts and instead of being helped out i was let go. my commissions arent making enough to cut it.
WHY I NEED TO MOVE OUT: my mother has cripplingly bad OCD and bipolar disorder that have worsened over the years. she cannot cope with these things and often takes her fits of rage out on me. she is my sole parent after my deadbeat father’s suicide and i am ridiculed and hit for mundane reasons i cannot help. she also insists on calling me dirty even though im very clean because of her cleaning OCD. im moving out with my girlfriend in oklahoma (im moving from ohio) for a safe, loving environment. my mother also doesnt respect me whatsoever and treats my (diagnosed) depression and PTSD like they arent real disorders and i need to be taken seriously. i need to get far away.
without this money i may have to stay in ohio longer than i need to. i will do art for you. i will skype with you. i will provide moral support and beauty advice or anything you need as a friend just help me get some fucking money. please.

Israel Destroys Entire Gaza Neighborhood In An Hour

July 29th, 2014

An entire Gaza neighborhood is decimated within an hour by Israeli air strikes. The video is further proof that Israel has no regard for the life of innocent Palestinians.

Israel attacked Gaza’s only power plant on Tuesday, leaving the Palestinian territory’s 1.8 million residents with no electricity or running water and opened the possibility of an even graver humanitarian crisis.

After three weeks of violence between Israel and Gaza, more than 1,100 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli air and ground strikes. About 75 percent of Palestinian deaths have been civilians. Several thousand have been wounded and more than 100,000 displaced. Fifty-three Israeli soldiers have died, as well as three civilians.

Just look at the casualties. This is not a war, it is genocide.
